Sightseeing tour of Kazan
As part of a transport and walking tour of the most interesting sights of Kazan, we will see the city from all sides: we will walk along the ancient streets, where every stone has its own history, and visit a modern metropolis living in the frantic rhythm of the capital.

Tour of the Chak-Chaka Museum located in the Old Tatar Quarter of Kazan

This is the house of the merchant Vafa Bigaev, built in the first half of the 19th century. Excursions in the museum cover periods from the Volga Bulgaria to the present day, but special attention is paid to the period of the late 19th – early 20th centuries, which is relatively well described by contemporaries, especially by the Tatar scholar and encyclopedist Kayum Nasyri. The museum recreates the life of a wealthy Tatar house of the late 19th – early 20th centuries. Life is recreated on the basis of authentic photographs of the interiors of Tatar houses in Kazan and Zakazanye using samples of surviving household items, home decoration, clothing, and tools of that time. A distinctive feature of this museum is that almost everything can be touched and tried in action. The museum includes a museum shop where you can try and buy chak-chak, baursak and another 19th century dish, restored according to an old recipe.

Day 3 – Bolgar

Full day excursion to Bolgar with lunch in a cafe

Transfer to Bolgar Bolgar was the capital of Volga Bulgaria, one of the early state associations of Eastern Europe. The Bolgar Historical and Architectural Complex is the world’s northernmost monument of medieval Muslim architecture, included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. Bolgar is a holy place for the Volga Tatars. Here in 922, Islam was adopted as the official state religion.

• The Cathedral Mosque and the Great Minaret – the center of the architectural ensemble;
• The Eastern Mausoleum – a Muslim burial vault;
• The Northern Mausoleum – a symbol of the Bolgar settlement;
• The Khan’s Tomb and the Small Minaret – holy places of memory of ancestors;
• The Black Chamber – popular memory has linked its name with a beautiful legend about the Bulgarian princess Altynchech, who threw herself from the roof of the building, refusing to marry the Golden Horde Khan;
• The White Mosque – one of the most significant buildings that have replenished the modern collection of the architectural heritage of Tatarstan. The white decorum of the building makes the mosque resemble the Indian Taj Mahal.
