A new museum in St. Petersburg has appeared recently, it was opened in 2013, but has already managed to win rave reviews from visitors. The Faberge Museum is a private collection and is located in the Naryshkin-Shuvalov Palace.
The old count’s manor has become a good place to demonstrate masterpieces of art – Easter eggs, created by the firm of Russian jeweler Carl Gustav Faberge. A native of St. Petersburg, but having Franco-German roots, he became famous for creating a series of Easter imperial eggs.
The idea of the museum belonged to the Russian businessman V. Vekselberg, who set as his goal the return to Russia of lost artistic values. The project was helped by the Cultural and Historical Foundation “Link of Times”.
The first Faberge egg collections for St. Petersburg were bought from the descendants of the American multimillionaire, a great lover of jewelry. This happened in 2004. Then, the collection of returned values was replenished with other works of art bought at various auctions or from private owners.
Today the museum presents collections of various jewelry values. They are located in 11 rooms, each of which has its own name. Easter eggs are on display in the Blue Palace lounge.
The owners of the museum did everything possible to recreate the atmosphere of the palace: in the halls you can admire stucco molding, fireplaces, vases, candelabra and silk-studded walls.
In addition to the legendary eggs in the halls, table silver, jewelry, home decoration, haberdashery, china, icons, paintings and decor items with enamel coating are on display. Some of the 4000 exhibits of the museum previously belonged to members of the imperial family.
But the greatest value is represented by 9 imperial Easter eggs created by the company on the order of Russian monarchs. In total, over the course of Faberge’s activity, 50 eggs were created, all of which are works of art. Some of them are stored in the Armory in the Kremlin and in the Russian Museum.
New collections of values that were already considered lost are of great interest to both tourists and residents. The Faberge museum today belongs to the most popular private museums in Russia.
