The Bolshoi Theater building was built in 1776. A six-year global reconstruction was completed in 2011, as a result of which the interior of the Bolshoi Theater was not only updated, but technically modernized.
An individual excursion to the backstage of the Bolshoi Theater begins with a tour of the Beethoven Concert and Rehearsal Hall, the technological equipment of which, after reconstruction, is worthy of admiration.
Next, you will proceed to the auditorium of the historical stage of the Bolshoi Theater, which seats more than 2,000 thousand spectators. There is a sloped floor for a better view of the stage from the last rows. The magnificent curtain, measuring 24 meters wide and weighing more than 800 kilograms, was completely updated, almost by hand, with the participation of Russian and foreign specialists, who gave it a special gloss of luxury and style.
A three-tier chandelier, 8.5 meters high, made of 24 thousand decorative crystal elements, installed in 1863 in the center of the parterre, weighing 2.3 tons, is magnificent.
Half of the chandelier’s decor has been authentically preserved after restoration in 2011. The ceiling lamp “Apollo and the Muses” was also preserved after restoration in its original form from 1835. The ground floor is decorated with three boxes – Imperial, Romanov, Director’s.
From the stalls the visitor moves to the Great Spectator’s Foyer, first famous for the white piano on which the composer Scriabin played.
The imperial foyer, whose walls are covered with unique scarlet silk, remembers the details of the coronation of Nicholas II, which took place here.
You will see the exhibition of the theater museum, where costumes of world ballet and opera stars for the ballets “Sleeping Beauty”, “Esmeralda”, “Raymonda”, and posters for historical performances are presented. The exhibition is live and constantly updated.
