The art of forging is known in Russia since ancient times, but the beginning of its wide distribution began in the XII—XIII centuries — the time of the birth of Russian urban blacksmith. At that period there were already remarkable examples of artistic forging.
The museums of our country preserved the products of this unusual branch of decorative art. Today you will be a forge student and make a piece of art yourself.
The forge master will show you the different forging tools and explain how to use them. The student is given a fire-retardant canvas apron and goggles. Now you are a real Russian blacksmith.
The master will teach you the technique of working with a handbrake, which is treated with metal and a sledgehammer (this is no ordinary hammer, but a huge one: it weighs from 2 to 8 kg., you need to hold it with both hands.) on the example of a wooden blank. These skills will be needed in the next, practical part of the class.
